Backlist Readathon 2023

Hey everyone!! Today I’m going to be giving you my TBR for the Backlist Readathon hosted by Jacqueline and a few others (video linked below). This readathon runs from March 12-18 and is all about reading those older books on your TBRs instead of new releases. So without further ado, let’s see what I’m reading.

A book you thought about unhauling

It’s been years since I’ve been in this world and I’m not sure if my excitement is still the same.

A book from an author you’ve read from before

Cant wait to get back to this series!!

A book from your favorite genre

Fantasy is my favorite genre and I also like middle grade. I’ve tried to read this before through audiobook, but I want to try again now that I have the physical copy.

A book picked via random number generator

I have 53 books to choose from, not including the ones already selected or that I’m currently reading. The generator selected 47 and so I’m reading Empire of the Vampire.

Co-host prompt (each host got to select a different prompt of their choosing for this)

I choose the prompt “a book with blue on the cover” and I selected Boyfriend Material!

So there you have it!! My tbr for The Backlist Readathon. Are any of you participating in this readathon? If so, what are you planning on reading? Hope you find some great reads! As always, happy reading 💚

February 2021 TBR

Hey everyone! I know this a couple days late, but I wasn’t feeling too good this past few days. So that is why you are getting my TBR now 😊 here is what I would like to read during the month of February:

I’m hoping to read at least 5 of these this month. I’m struggling picking up physical reads lately, so my goal for this month is 5.

Happy reading everyone 💚

January 2021 TBR

Happy new year everyone!! Hope you all had a fantastic holiday season. Today I’m bringing you my TBR for January ❤️ I created a whole new Bookopoly board to better fit my tastes. The rules for me going forward are: 6 rolls every month, doubles count as extra rolls, and sticking to the prompt unless I can stretch a book to make it fit (lol). I’m still trying to come up with a punishment or challenge for myself if I don’t complete the books for that month. So I need your help for this. If you would be so kind, leave me some suggestions in the comments. Now onto what I rolled!

Roll 1: 5+4 so 9

I rolled a 9 which landed me on LGBTQIA+ rep, and I’m so glad because I can FINALLY read this book. Its been out for almost a year now lol why I haven’t I picked it up since I own it? No clue lol

Roll 2: 5+6 so 11

For this roll, I rolled an 11 and landed on Booktuber fave. Look. I’ve been saying I was going to read this for months now lol probably almost a year. I’ve even made it 100 pages in. I think this book just intimidates me. Not due to the size because I love big books. I think it’s the hype, and due to Nevermoor being a let down (I DNFed it) I’m afraid of this being the same. Hopefully I can finish it this month and let you all know my thoughts and feelings on it.

Roll 3: 1+4 so 5

For this roll, I rolled a 5 and landed on physical book. I put this down due to scribd acting up for me. For some reason, I’ve gotten so used to having the audiobooks while I read along physically that I seem to have forgotten how to read without one lol so hopefully I can get back to doing that so I can continue with this book.

Roll 4: 4+3 so 7

For this roll, I rolled a 7 and landed on middle grade fantasy. Anyone see a theme here? Lol I pretty much picked books thats I started so I can actually get them read. I have so many started that I need to get them finished.

Roll 5: 3+5 so 8

For this roll, I rolled an 8 and landed on Go. For this, I randomized my TBR (I have a tiny decision wheel with all my unread books). This, I believe, will actually be my first read of 2021! Plus I’ve never actually read past book 1 in this series so it’s about to time I do that.

Roll 6: 4+1 so 5

For my final roll, I rolled a 5 and landed on retelling. I know you are probably tired of seeing this pop up on my TBRs lol it went from highly anticipated, to a struggle read, to a DNF, and now it’s a second chance read. I think my problem is that I keep trying to compare it to the Splintered series and I need to stop that. Plus the author herself told me I would love the love interest in here based on my love of Morpheus in the other series. So I need to see if she is right lol

So there is my TBR for January. Have you read any of these? Did you like them? Did you not? Like previously stated, I need your help figuring out a punishment if I don’t complete this this month. As always, happy reading 💚

December 2020 TBR

Hey everyone! Today I’m bringing you my December TBR, and once again I did Bookopoly. November was a tough reading month only because of work. I work retail, and retail during the holidays is rough lol I only read 3 books, and two of those were carry overs from October 🤷🏾‍♀️ So what’s on the schedule for December? Let’s find out!

Roll 1: Foiled cover

Reading the next story in the Narnia series, The Horse and His Boy.

Roll 2: POC rep

My girl Shuri ❤️ reading one of my newest additions to my TBR

Roll 3: Becca Rec

I’ve been trying to read this book for months lol I know Becca loves this book, and I want to actually finish this!!

Roll 4: Fire on the cover

I went for fire colors instead of literal fire. There is a Daughter of Smoke and Bone read along happening, and Days of Blood and Starlight is December’s read.

Roll 5: Friend Pick

once again I asked my baby brother to choose. Once again he went for a beast of a book. This is almost 700 pages! Luckily for me this is a reread for me 😊 I love these three books and will gladly reread it.

Roll 6: Lowest Rated

This was a DNF last year. However, it’s getting a second chance because I love the Splintered series by this author.

Roll 7: TBR vet

I’ve been participating in Tolkien along since September and we’ve now come to the final book. I gave The Hobbit 3 stars, but the actual Lord of the Rings trilogy has been all 5 stars so far. I am so eager to start this!!

Roll 8: LGBTQ+ rep

This was released in February, yet I’m just now getting to it in December lol classic me. I can’t wait to read the conclusion to this duology and find out more about Dani and Carmen.

Roll 9: Standalone

Took me way too long to find a book for this since I mostly read series. I actually forgot I owned it lol I still need to read The Song of Achilles as well.

Roll 10: Set in the past

Are we surprised? Lol I will keep putting this on TBRs until I actually read it.

So this is my TBR for the last month of 2020! Have you read any of these? Did you like them? Did you not? Let me know! Happy holidays and happy reading 💚

November TBR

Hello everyone!! Back in September, I participated in Becca’s Bookoplathon and enjoyed myself so much. In fact, I decided for October to play for myself and see how I got on with it. Glad that was just a trial run because I kept changing things all month lol finally got it how I want it (I think) and now November is going to be my first full month actually using it. So what did I roll? Let’s find out!

Roll 1: Sequel

Finally going to make myself finish this series lol I don’t want it to end but I need to find out how it ends

Roll 2: Set in the Past

It’s the last physical Shadowhunter book I own and it fits perfectly with the prompt 😊

Roll 3: Highest Rated

Technically this should be Saga Book 3. However, I haven’t read Saga Book 2 and that’s my second highest rated so I’m going with that one. Might end up reading Book 3 this month as well

Roll 4: Foiled Cover

Going with one of my newest additions to my shelf 😊Book haul is coming!

Roll 5: Middle Grade

The finale to the series! I will finally know what happens and I’m expecting big twists and emotions. Plus these last two books are huge so there should be a lot happening.

Roll 6: Chance

For this, I have a tiny decision wheel with all my unread books on it. So I spun that and it gave me The Last Namsara.

Roll 7: Water on Cover

Finally going to pick this up after owning this for like 2 years lol

Roll 8: Friend Pick

This is what happens when you let you brother choose a book for you lol

Roll 9: GO

The GO space is to randomize your TBR. So once again I used the tiny decision wheel and it chose The Last Magician

Roll 10: Dark Cover

For my final roll (yay no doubles!!) I landed on Dark Cover which seems to be a lot of my books lol so I just randomly chose one 😊

So this is my TBR for November ❤️ what are you all reading next month? Have you read any of these? Did you like them? Did you not like them? Let me know!! As always, happy reading everyone 💚

Make Your Myth Taker

Hello there! Today I am bringing you my TBR for this exciting readathon. It is brought to you by Ashleigh from A Frolic Through Fiction. It is highly involved so I’ve linked the announcement video.

The main thing is that we have to create a character from one of the four main categories (Royal Court, Sorcerers, Warriors, and Rogues). However, each category has 4 characters. I have gone for the Goddess path with a secondary path of Mercenary.

Meet Severé. She’s always been that sweet, shy girl that loves to help out. Growing up the only daughter of a witch and knight, she always knew she was destined to be someone special someday. However, she didn’t want to follow in either of her parents footsteps. So, one random day at dinner, she declares “I’m going to be a Goddess.” Her brothers (like all siblings) tease her, her father is slightly worried, and her mother is over the moon.

After a nice long talk, they decide she will take the training when she gets a little older. A few years go by, and now Severé is ready to train. Her first task is learning that she is more than these mere humans walking around.

For this I have to read a book featuring a non-human MC. So I have chosen:

Mr. Baz here is a vampire.

The next lesson she will have to learn is to let her magic shine through.

For this I have to read a book with a foiled cover. I have chosen:

Severé can’t seem to get these words out of her head: “It’s clear you were meant to rule. Your divine presence puts you at the top of the hierarchy.” She tells her father one day, and to her surprise he agrees. After all, he always did say she could be Queen someday. Severé thinks about it, but ultimately decides to stay on her path to become a Goddess.

For this I have to read my highest rated book on Goodreads, and that turns out to be Saga book 3. I’m going with Book 2 though since I haven’t read that yet lol

The last lesson for Severé to learn is divine intervention.

For this I had to randomize my TBR. So I did a random number generator and the book it selected was:

She finally did it!! She is now the Goddess she always dreamed she would be. Severé has some great years too. Until she finds out someone is coming after her. She wasn’t supposed to hear that though. So she goes to her brother Lucien. Why does she go to him you ask? Why, he’s a mercenary of course.

Lucien will do whatever it takes to protect his baby sister, but he also knows she needs to learn other ways to protect herself. Especially when she’s alone. He also knows that Severé is more than just that sweet shy girl she portrays. He knows just how to bring out that fighter he knows is in her.

The first lesson he teaches her is that a mercenary is always awaiting their next mission.

For this I need to read an anticipated read. For that I chose:

“The most important lesson I’m going to teach you, Severé, is that a warrior should always have their weapon!”

As you might have guessed, I need to read a book with a weapon on the cover. So I’ve chosen:

The next lesson she learned from her brother is that on journeys through forgotten, she may stumble across pure magic on her mission.

For this I have to read a book featuring a magic battle. I’m going with:

One day at her home, Severé thinks about what her brother told her during one of their final lessons. He said that mercenaries were so common, but now only seem to be legends. She asked him why that was, but he couldn’t give her an answer because he didn’t know himself.

For this I have to read a book inspired by history or legend. I chose:

Will Severé be able to become that mercenary she needs to be in order to protect herself? Or will she just rely on her sorcery to get her through things? Will she even become that Goddess she always dreamed about? Or will it be just that- a dream? We shall find out when June is over 😊

June 2020: the month of three readathons and my blog’s one year birthday 💚

Hello everyone 😊 first things first: my blog turns one on June 9th!! I don’t know what I’m going to do for that though. I need some ideas on what are good posts for blog anniversaries. Any recommendations are welcomed!!

Just like last summer, it’s readathon heavy and I love it!! I’ve finally figured out how to do multiple readathons so I will be less stressed. I’m also low key participating in Queer Lit because it’s only a week long challenge, and I want to spread it out throughout the entire month. I’ve been trying to read more LGBTQIA+ books throughout the year, but I especially want to read a lot during Pride month. I’m also putting the third readathon in a separate post because I have more I want to say about it.

The Readathon Diaries

Yes this is a readathon based on The Vampire Diaries, and I am so in!! Here is one of the announcement videos for this readathon. You can either be Team Witch, Team Werewolf, or Team Vampire. My team is….

Can you guess what book I’m reading for most of these prompts?? Yup it’s Twilight. It fits: Salvatore, Daylight Ring, Damon (using Rosalie as my snarky character), and Sirelines. For Vervain, I’ll be reading Circe by Madeline Miller. The group book may or may not be read. Haven’t decided.

Olympic Games

This readathon is based on the Percy Jackson series. Now I’ve only read the first book, and yes I’ve seen the movies. However, I’m super excited to participate in this readathon. The announcement video for this is here.

I had a funny little thing happen when I checked this out. All I knew was that you have a Patron or godly parent that you are playing for. So I went through and selected Poseidon (because I’ve always felt connected to him for some reason). I gathered all my books for the prompts….only to watch a video of someone’s TBR mentioning a quiz. So I went back and took the quiz and what do you know?

My prompts for Poseidon are:

Set at sea/coast:

MC uses a sword:

Non-human MC:

Finish a book in 3 days:

Not heard much about:

Advanced challenges- Canoeing (blue cover)

Monster fighting (magical creatures):

Pegasus riding (published in the last 5 years):

OWLs Magical Readathon 2020 wrap up

Hello everyone!! Today I am bringing you my wrap up of the OWLs. Spoiler alert: my TBR is completely changed and I literally just finished my prompts yesterday. The career path I chose was Carer of Magical Children (with a side career path of Potioneer). I needed 8 prompts to complete for my main career, but of course I wanted to go for all 12. So let’s see what I intended to read and what I actually read.

Ancient Runes- heart on the cover or in the title

It’s what I read and what I initially put in my TBR.

Arithmancy- outside your favorite genre

On my TBR:

Care of Magical Creatures- beak on the cover

On my TBR and what I actually read 😊

Defense Against the Dark Arts- set at sea/coast

On my TBR:

What I actually read:

Divination- random number generator

On my TBR:

On my TBR:

What I actually read:

Potions- under 150 pages

I read the first story The Magician’s Nephew which was only 100 pages.

Transfiguration- contains shape shifting

It was on my TBR and I read it 😊

So I completed all 12 OWLS!! Now let’s hope the NEWTs are nice to me come August lol

How did you do if you participated?? Let me know! Happy reading 💚

Medieval-A-Thon TBR

Hello everyone!! Time to bring you another readathon TBR. This one is for the Medieval-A-Thon hosted by Holly @ Holly Hearts Books on YouTube. I participated in this last year so of course I was going to do it again this year. This last the entire month of May, and no you are not allowed to double up on prompts. What did I choose to read that I will probably change as the readathon goes on lol let’s find out!

My outfit

Going with the third option and reading a shiny book. I know I have put this on multiple TBRS but hopefully I will finally start my reread of Twilight.

My weapon

Something pointy on the cover

Start of finish a duology: I’m leaning towards either Daughter of the Siren Queen by Tricia Levenseller or We Unleash the Merciless Storm by Tehlor Kay Mejia.

A romance: Kiss of Deception (giving it a second chance)

A heavy book: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

A book you have high expectations for (like a 5 star read): Crystal of Time by Soman Chainani (book 5 in the School for Good and Evil series…it will be my first time reading it)

My companion

High on my bookshelf: Days of Blood and Starlight

Buddy read: Strange the Dreamer (book club buddy read)

Title starts with C: Crown’s Fate

Tall hardcover:

Orange on the cover:

Yes I know I’m aiming for just about everything lol I feel like month long readathons afford me that freedom.

Are any of you participating? If so, what do you plan to read? As always, happy reading 💚

OWLs Magical Readathon TBR

Hello everyone! My favorite readathon is starting tomorrow. I’m talking about the OWLs Magical Readathon hosted by G over at Book Roast. I left a link of her announcement video so you can hear all the explanations from her (because I know I won’t explain it right lol)

Last year I managed to read all 12 prompts for the OWLs, but failed at my NEWTs so I didn’t become a Potioneer ☹️ This year, I’m going for a different career, but going to see if I can complete Potioneer as well. My new is career is:

I’m hoping to accomplish all 12 again this year, but I did just start a new job (my job is considered essential so I have to work) so I will probably just stick to the 8 I need. I do have a book picked out for each prompt so I will get into those now.

Ancient Runes: Heart Rune- heart on the cover or in the title

There is a heart on the playing card.

Arithmancy: Magical qualities of number 2-balance/opposites: read something outside your favorite genre

Fantasy is my favorite but this is one of my favorite authors so it fits 😊

Astronomy: Night classes- read majority of this book when it’s dark outside

Care of Magical Creatures: Hippogriffs-creature with a beak on the cover

Continuing my reread of this series….book 3 will show up later since I didn’t read it in March. Plus the beaks of the swans count.

Charms: Lumos Maxima- White cover

I’m counting this as white lol

Defense Against the Dark Arts: Grindylows- book set at sea/coast

I’ve heard this is a Little Mermaid retelling so I’m guessing this takes place in the sea.

Divination: Third Eye- assign numbers to your TBR and use a random number generator to pick your read

Herbology: Mimbulus mimbletonia- title starts with an M

History of Magic: Witch Hunts- book featuring witches/wizards

Told you book 3 would show up lol

Muggle Studies: book from a perspective of a muggle (contemporary)

Potions: Shrinking Solution- book under 150 pages

Reading the first story (The Magician’s Nephew) in this book which is exactly 100 pages

Transfiguration: Animagus lecture- book/series that includes shapeshifting

Not sure if this book includes it, but I know the series does

I’m also planning on doing the extra training and lectures that G created this year. Luckily they go hand in hand with my OWLs. I’m so excited to start!

Are you participating?? What career are going for? How many prompts do you have to complete? Are you going to try and complete all 12? Let me know in the comments. Happy reading and good luck!!
