The Princess Trap by Talia Hibbert book review

Hello everyone! Today I here with another review. I was in a semi romance mood, which is new for me because romance is normally a genre I shy away from. I say semi because I only wanted to read a Talia Hibbert romance book. That’s exactly what I did. In fact, I read two back to back. This is the review for the first one.

He’s reckless, dominant, and deliciously dirty. This prince is no fairytale.

Prince Ruben of Helgmøre is his family’s greatest scandal, but the defiant royal won’t change for anyone. He always takes what he wants, and his current obsession is Cherry Neita. The feisty beauty has no idea she’s being seduced by royalty—until they’re caught together in a compromising position. Oops.

All Cherry wanted was a night or two with the hottest man she’d ever seen. Turns out, that man is actually a prince, and now he needs her to play princess. Well, princess-to-be. The deal seems straightforward enough: one year as Ruben’s fake fiancée, and he’ll make all her problems disappear.

But the passion between Cherry and Ruben feels anything but fake, and their connection unearths devastating secrets. Can true love bloom from false beginnings? Or will this fairytale end in a happy-never-after?

First things first: Get A Life, Chloe Brown was my favorite book of 2020. This book here….very close to matching that. Chloe got 5 stars while this one got 4.5 stars. I absolutely loved this. It got me really invested in the relationship, which is the main reason why I stay away from romance because I never feel anything about the relationships. Talia has written her relationships in a way that makes me believe they are real. Like I personally know these characters and am rooting for them to be together or work things out.

Another thing I love about her books are at the beginning she puts an author note. In this author note she puts content warnings. This book deals with themes of abuse. Now I’ve never dealt with any kind of abuse so I can’t speak to how accurate she portrayed it. However, I felt it was done with care. I do not feel anything was glossed over.

Now onto the characters. Cherry is a whirlwind. She knows who she is, and everyone else has to deal. Ruben is worse but in the best way. He is everything the first line of the synopsis says he is, but he has his reasons for being that way. I LOVE them together.

This is technically book 1 in a duet, but they are companions to each. They are described as steamy, and this was definitely that. I am definitely picking up the second to see what I think of it. Talia Hibbert is definitely a new favorite author.

Have you read any of Talia Hibbert’s book? Do you have a favorite? Do you not get on with her writing? If so why not? Let me know in the comments. As always, happy reading 💚

The Lightning Thief book review

Why yes. I am extremely late to this series. This was a reread for me, however, I read it back in 2019 and never continued on. So I plan to change that this year. And yes, I am also a child of Poseidon.

Disclaimer: I saw the movie first, and had no problem with it. Upon reading this the first time, I realized why so many others complained about it. I found myself going “that didn’t happen in the movie” or something along those lines.

My favorite scene of this whole book was the statue scene. I don’t know what it is about it, but I got happy reading that scene again. I also loved the Lotus Hotel scene. It was creepy but kid-creepy (that probably makes no sense to anyone but me lol) which I loved because I don’t like to be scared unless I knowingly put myself in that situation.

I really am grateful that the illustrations in this portrayed them as children. It really brought home just how young they really are. I mean, my first reaction seeing Percy was “Look how little he is!!”

It’s hard to talk about this book because I know a lot of people have read it. However, there might be a few who, like me, haven’t never read it. So I’m struggling with giving details without saying to much. Especially since this series is so well loved.

Yes I will work on writing better reviews. As I just mentioned, I struggled with this one. Any tips and tricks on writing reviews will be helpful. As always, happy reading 💚

First Line Fridays January 8, 2021

Hey everyone! I’m back with another First Line Fridays, hosted by Wandering Words. What if instead of judging a book by its cover, its author, or its prestige, we judged it by its opening lines?

  • Pick a book off your shelf (it could be your current read or on your TBR) and open to the first page.
  • Copy the first few lines, but don’t give anything else about the book away just yet – you need to hook the reader first!

Finally…..reveal the book.

It is said that only two living souls saw the Salt God leave earth for the last time.

This book is….

WWW WEDNESDAY January 6, 2021

Hey everyone! Back again with another WWW Wednesday hosted by Taking on a World Of Words. WWW Wednesday is where you answer the following questions: What are you currently reading? What have you recently finished? What do you plan on reading next? Let’s get into it!

What are you currently reading?

A lot lol I’ve started so much, but what I’m actively reading is:

What have you recently finished?

My first book of the year 😊

What do you plan on reading next?

Top 5 series I would like to make progress on

Hello everyone. Today I am going to tell you about the top 5 series I would like to either finish, get caught up on, or make some good progress on this year. I am a big series reader, so that means I’ve started a whole bunch lol I would like to reign those in and actually make progress on them before starting others. Here are the 5 I would am prioritizing:

I’m almost done with this series! I have two more novels and a couple novellas before I am complete. There is a spin-off series coming this month I believe so I would like to have this done before then (wishful thinking lol)

Yup this is the year I finally read this series. I’m enjoying book 1 so far. I have to tab it and annotate because otherwise I would be lost lol

I had started this last year for a buddy read. However, I ended up leaving that group because I felt it was becoming too stressful for me at an already stressful time. Reading wasn’t fun anymore and I didn’t like that. So I would definitely love to start this over and hopefully continue on with the series.

Thinking of giving this series another chance. I think I let all the negative reviews and things cloud my judgement. So I’ll pick book 2 back up and continue it since I still remember things. I wasn’t too far to forget anyway lol

I own all 4 so why haven’t I read past book 1?!?! I definitely need to reread Eragon because I read it in 2019. Plus I might annotate it since they are all huge books.

Others I would like to get to as well

That’s it from me! Happy reading 💚

21 in 21: The 21 books I want to read in 2021

Hey everyone! I’m here today with a post I meant to do in December lol it’s still early in the year however so it’s fine. I’m bringing you the top 21 books I want in 2021. So let’s see what they are!

Most are fantasy because that’s my preferred genre, but I do have a couple a contemporary and one thriller that I would like to give a shot.

Have you read any of these? Do you think I will enjoy them or not? Have you made a list of the books you would like to get to this year? Let me know! As always, happy reading 💚

January 2021 TBR

Happy new year everyone!! Hope you all had a fantastic holiday season. Today I’m bringing you my TBR for January ❤️ I created a whole new Bookopoly board to better fit my tastes. The rules for me going forward are: 6 rolls every month, doubles count as extra rolls, and sticking to the prompt unless I can stretch a book to make it fit (lol). I’m still trying to come up with a punishment or challenge for myself if I don’t complete the books for that month. So I need your help for this. If you would be so kind, leave me some suggestions in the comments. Now onto what I rolled!

Roll 1: 5+4 so 9

I rolled a 9 which landed me on LGBTQIA+ rep, and I’m so glad because I can FINALLY read this book. Its been out for almost a year now lol why I haven’t I picked it up since I own it? No clue lol

Roll 2: 5+6 so 11

For this roll, I rolled an 11 and landed on Booktuber fave. Look. I’ve been saying I was going to read this for months now lol probably almost a year. I’ve even made it 100 pages in. I think this book just intimidates me. Not due to the size because I love big books. I think it’s the hype, and due to Nevermoor being a let down (I DNFed it) I’m afraid of this being the same. Hopefully I can finish it this month and let you all know my thoughts and feelings on it.

Roll 3: 1+4 so 5

For this roll, I rolled a 5 and landed on physical book. I put this down due to scribd acting up for me. For some reason, I’ve gotten so used to having the audiobooks while I read along physically that I seem to have forgotten how to read without one lol so hopefully I can get back to doing that so I can continue with this book.

Roll 4: 4+3 so 7

For this roll, I rolled a 7 and landed on middle grade fantasy. Anyone see a theme here? Lol I pretty much picked books thats I started so I can actually get them read. I have so many started that I need to get them finished.

Roll 5: 3+5 so 8

For this roll, I rolled an 8 and landed on Go. For this, I randomized my TBR (I have a tiny decision wheel with all my unread books). This, I believe, will actually be my first read of 2021! Plus I’ve never actually read past book 1 in this series so it’s about to time I do that.

Roll 6: 4+1 so 5

For my final roll, I rolled a 5 and landed on retelling. I know you are probably tired of seeing this pop up on my TBRs lol it went from highly anticipated, to a struggle read, to a DNF, and now it’s a second chance read. I think my problem is that I keep trying to compare it to the Splintered series and I need to stop that. Plus the author herself told me I would love the love interest in here based on my love of Morpheus in the other series. So I need to see if she is right lol

So there is my TBR for January. Have you read any of these? Did you like them? Did you not? Like previously stated, I need your help figuring out a punishment if I don’t complete this this month. As always, happy reading 💚

WWW WEDNESDAY December 16, 2020

Hey everyone! Back again with another WWW Wednesday hosted by Taking on a World Of Words. WWW Wednesday is where you answer the following questions: What are you currently reading? What have you recently finished? What do you plan on reading next? Let’s get into it!

What are you currently reading?

Anything and everything lol I pretty much threw my tbr out the window. I am “currently reading” about 8-10 books that I’ve picked up for like a day and than put down. I’m not in a reading slump. Work has gotten busy and I just want to read all the things at once. I think the main book I would like to finish this year that I just started is A Game of Thrones. I’m 100 pages in and my audiobook hold just back in on Libby so I’m ready to go!

What have you recently finished?

I’ve finished a few small things on Netgalley to try and bring my score up. Last time I checked I was at 77%! A couple of the titles I’ve finished were: I Know An Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly, Lore chapter sampler, and In Love and Pajamas comic collection.

What do you plan on reading next?

I would also like to finish up the House of M comic from Marvel to have some knowledge before WandaVision begins. Other than that, I also want to finish The Return of the King to finish out that series.

Best and Worst Book Series of 2020 book tag

Hey everyone! Work has definitely been keeping me busy (retail and holidays omg) so I haven’t been reading as much or posting as much as I wanted to. I wanted to do some kind of post today since I’m off, and I came across this tag on YouTube. Since I mostly read series, I thought this was fitting. Let’s get into these questions!

1) what is the best series that you caught up with this year that is still a work in progress?

That would be the Hidden Legacy series by Ilona Andrews. This is my favorite series of theirs! I think there will be a bit of a wait for book 6 because they are releasing a spin off series to Kate Daniels. I believe the first book comes out next year, and then Ruby Fever comes out 2022 (I could be wrong however I believe that’s what I read)

2) what is the best work in progress series that you are still catching up with?

I have to go with the series that brought me my first favorite author, and that’s Alex Cross by James Patterson. I swear I will be reading books by this man even when I’m old and gray lol this series alone has to be 20+ books and counting. I’m nowhere near caught up smh

3) what was your favorite first book in a series this year?

Hands down Get A Life, Chloe Brown. That book is special to me.

4) what is a first book in a series you read this year that you think should have just been a standalone, not a series?

Going with One of Us is Lying. I feel like it would have been fine on its own. However, then I wouldn’t have gotten Two Can Keep A Secret, which is my second favorite book of the year.

5) what is your most over-hyped series of the year?

I don’t have an answer for this because most of the series I’ve read this year have been backlist series.

6) what is a series that you DNFed this year?

Of Fire and Stars, The Crown’s Game, and Shatter Me are ones I actually made it past the first book.

7) what was your favorite series finale of the year?

The Midnight Star by Marie Lu.

8) what was the biggest cliffhanger you had in a series this year?

The ending to Beautiful Chaos by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl HURT!!! It did not have to end like that.

9) what is your favorite spinoff series you read this year?

I don’t think I’ve read one. Unless you count books 4&5 in Hidden Legacy since we follow a different character then the first trilogy.

10) what is your most anticipated next book in a series that you read this year that will come out next year?

Any Way the Wind Blows by Rainbow Rowell. My babies Simon and Baz and Penelope 💚 It comes out in my birthday month too!!

11) what is your most anticipated series to catch up with next year based on what you read in that series this year?

A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J Maas comes out next year. It’s a continuation of the ACOTAR series, and it follows Nesta and Cassian. I can not wait for this because I love Cassian, and Nesta intrigues more than her sisters 🤷🏾‍♀️

12) what is your favorite series that you finished this year?

The Castor Chronicles (or Beautiful Creatures series) by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl. The emotions that series put me through, plus the audiobooks were so immersive with the sound effects and the narrator was soooo good. Still not over how the final book made me happy just to rip my heart out.

13) what is your favorite episodic series of the year?

I honestly do not know. That’s a good question.

14) what is a series that you finally bailed on after holding onto it for a long time?

I’m glad to say I don’t have one. If I’m not feeling a series or book, I DNF it with no problem. I try to make it halfway to give it a fair try.

15) what is the series you were most surprised that you liked this year?

I would count The Kiss of Deception as an answer for this. It from a DNF to a 4 star read. I need book 2, but I want it physically lol

16) what is the series that you meant to catch up with or finish this year that you didn’t?

The Schools for Good and Evil by Soman Chainani. Partly because I was waiting on the final book’s release this summer, and partly because I don’t want it to end 😫 I’m only on book 5 still and only like chapter 4 lol I am definitely dragging my feet

17) what is a series you finished this year that you think is greater than the sum of its parts?

The Another series by siblings Daniel and Dina Nayeri. Book 2 is by far the best of the trilogy to me, but I feel like that series was missing something. Idk what though.

Well that is all the questions. If you would like to do this tag, consider yourself tagged! I hope you all enjoyed my answers. As always, happy reading everyone 💚
