WWW WEDNESDAY 9/25/19

Hello everyone 💚 I’m here today with another WWW Wednesday hosted by Taking on a World Of Words. In this meme, you answer: What am I currently reading?, What have I recently finished?, and What do I plan to start next? So here we go!

What am I currently reading?

About to start my reread of Splintered!! Annotating it this time around.

Also about to start City of Glass by Cassandra Clare (finally!!) I finished City it Ashes back in March so it’s about time to re-enter the Shadowhunter world.

What have I recently finished?

Least favorite of the series but I still enjoyed it. Plus I really missed Miss Connelly and the Quinn brothers

Also DNF Jack of Thorns. I was really enjoying it up until the halfway point and then it just went downhill from there. I stopped at like 60%. Not continuing on with the series.

This is my most recent finish. As in, I started it early this morning (and I mean early) and finished it a couple hours ago. I just could not put it down.

What do I plan to start next?

Red, White, and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston is the only book I know I’m starting next because it will be available to me soon on Libby 💚

Have a great day everyone!!

Football Book Tag

Hey everyone! It’s my favorite sport season of the year…football season. Go Bears! Go Saints! (Born in one city raised in another so I show love to both teams lol)

I saw Cass from What Cass Read on booktube do this tag and I couldn’t pass it up. So let’s get into the tag!

False Start- What’s a book you had to start more than once?

The only book I can think of is The Doctor’s Wife by Elizabeth Brundage. I started it in April, put it down, restarted it in July, and just DNF it recently. I don’t if I’m just not a Thriller person or if it was just that book. Any suggestions on Thrillers would be greatly appreciated!

MVP- What are your Most Valued Pages, aka, which books do you value the most?

This should come as no surprise to anyone that’s been following me awhile, but of course I’m going with The Splintered series as well as The School for Good and Evil series (final book is being released next year and I’m not ready 😫)

Offensive Lineman- Name a really big book or series

Going to go with one of my favorite authors James Patterson and say the Alex Cross series. I’m pretty sure that series has at least 30 books at this current time. I’m only on number 11. I just might binge read the series next month (that doesn’t sound half bad)

Rookie-Name a debut novel that you want to read or that you loved

Well what do you know? Both Splintered and The School for Good and Evil we’re debut novels for A. G. Howard and Soman Chainani respectively.

Peyton Manning- Name an author who has written two different books or series you love

Ilona Andrews. Hands down. This husband and wife duo has made it to my favorites list. I love their Hidden Legacy, Kate Daniels, and The Edge series. Caught up on Hidden Legacy (well besides the new release last month), have 2 more to go in The Edge series, and a long way to go on Kate lol

Lambeau Field- Name a book that’s very atmospheric

The Poppy War by R. F. Kuang. I’m really want to pick up The Dragon Republic but my heart and emotions are not ready (I doubt they every will be)

Hail Mary- Name a book with a great ending

Going with the reason I was in a book hangover last month and say A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J Maas. Oh boy. I literally yelled at the ending and then immediately bought A Court of Wings and Ruin and A Court of Frost and Starlight. They will definitely be read soon.

Raiders- Name a book or series with intense fans

I’m interpreting this as “very passionate fans”. Book wise I will say The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. Series wise I’m going with The Nevernight Chronicles by Jay Kristoff. No I haven’t read either of these lol still on the fence about the first but I’m definitely interested in Nevernight

Walter Payton Man of the Year- Name an author who’s really charitable

Umm I have no idea. I just got back into reading this year so I haven’t really followed any authors that way

Patriots- Name a book or series that you’re SO TIRED of hearing about

I don’t think I have one. I’m one that tends to like hearing different takes and perspectives on books and series. Then I read it and see where I fall.

Brett Favre- Name a book or series you thought was over but than more books were written

Again I just got back into reading this year so I’m so far behind on books and series so I wouldn’t even know

Cowboys- Name a book or series that people either love or hate

Anything by either Sarah J Maas or Cassandra Clare

Trick Plays- Name a book or series with a plot twist

I have to go with The School for Good and Evil series. This MG series has plot twists from the very first book. The ending of book 4 still has me shook.

Cheerleaders- A book with a flashy cover

I think I will go with the whole Shatter Me series

Roughing the Passer- Name a book that you would love to throw at the author

Switched by Amanda Hocking. I had the box set of the Trylle series (total cover selection) and the synopsis sounded really good. The story however 😒 still my biggest disappointment of the year. I was so let down.

That brings us to the end of this tag. Anyone else football fans or have significant others that are football fans? If you would like to do this tag, I would love to see how you respond to this questions. As always, have a great day 💚

WWW Wednesday

Hello there everyone! Bringing this meme back today. Hopefully I can stay consistent with it. Fingers crossed!

WWW Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Taking on a World of Words, where each Wednesday you answer the follow questions: What I am currently reading, What I have recently finished, and What do I plan to start next.

What I am currently reading

What I have recently finished

What I plan to start next

Have a great day everyone 💚

Edit: I did have 2 DNFs as well but wasn’t sure if they would go in the “recently finished section”. They were The Doctor’s Wife by Elizabeth Brundage and The Kiss Of Deception by Mary E. Pearson.

Appalachian Book of the Dead Review

HAPPY BOOK BIRTHDAY APPALACHIAN BOOK OF THE DEAD!!

Blurb: “A psycopathic killer disappears into the mountains and haunts the troubled residents. After the murderous Angel Jones escapes from a prison work crew, he mysteriously vanishes deep into the North Carolina Woods, forcing newcomers Cal and Joy McAlister to deal with his macabre presence lingering in the secluded forest. Burdened with his grief, guilt, and unfilled dreams, Cal and Joy are joined by an oddball handyman and a young detoxing neighbor as they grapple with the enigma of Angel’s menacing specter. Each of them brings their private ghosts to life and gives their worst fears flesh. This Southern Gothic tale blends ancient metaphysics with tantalizing thrills to make readers keenly aware of the wonders and woes of the world.”

First I want to say thank you to Netgalley and Southern Fried Karma for giving me a chance to review this E-ARC. I originally started to read this that way, but when I saw it available on Amazon I purchased a physical copy. Alright, let’s see how well I can review this without giving anything away lol

This book here is a roller coaster. I personally enjoyed it and gave it 4/5 stars. However, I can definitely see why it wouldn’t be for everyone. I’ve seen it described as a “metaphysical thriller” and I agree with that. It is definitely abstract, and will have you confused. I just finished it last night, and I’m still connecting pieces.

This is told in multiple POV so I definitely had to tab each chapter so I knew whose point of view we were in. There are also other chapters here and there that make you wonder what is going on and I absolutely loved those. It’s definitely character driven, and it reminds me of the movie Crash, where random events suddenly connect and throw strangers together.

I realize I read books that aren’t considered “popular” so it’s hard to find someone to talk to about it. This is one of those where I need to vent my thoughts and feelings but no one will understand unless they read it lol All in all though, I really enjoyed this book and glad I was able to finish it in time for its release date!

Happy reading 💚

I have started a bullet journal ðŸ““

Hello there! Today I thought I would talk about and show my new bullet journal. I have always wanted to have one, but never knew how to get started or what to do with it. After watching some bookish bullet journal videos on YouTube, I kind of figured out some sort of idea on how to structure mine. Of course, things may change month to month but hey that’s fine by me. So without further ado, let’s get started!

I decided on using the Leuchtturm 1917 dotted journal in Berry. I haven’t put my name in it yet, but I did write the month and year in it so I know when I started it.

I really like the table of contents pages plus I like the fact the pages are numbered. I also like the dual ribbons. I keep one on my table of contents and the other is on my current page.

I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do for a cover page, so I just went with my blog name in my favorite color and some reading stickers.

I am a proud Slytherin so I had to showcase that lol I also am tracking TV shows, movies, and book series.

This is a year long reading challenge that I am participating in. I didn’t write in the prompts. Once I read a book that fits the prompt, I fill in it. It’s 52 in all and I currently stand at 21/52.

The next page is blog related, but I kind of wanted to keep it to myself so that’s why I’m not showing it. This page, however, is all the books I need to read and review. They are either from Netgalley, BookSirens, or the author themselves. I’m not a big blogger yet so I can’t request popular titles. So I go for ones that interest me and hopefully in turn I can bring that author new readers with my review.

My September title page. I’m still thinking of adding stickers or something but maybe not. The Potions classroom stickers come from the Potions Master planner kit from AMelancholyMoose on Etsy. (The reading stickers and Snape sticker shown earlier also came from this kit.) Plus it’s back to school time for Hogwarts students so I went with a green theme for Mr. Potter’s eyes…and also because I’m a Slytherin lol

The next page was just my calendar for September. This here however is my TBR page for the month. I have the Tiny Decisions app, so what I did was make wheels for each category you see here, and then spin them to see which book I have to read for this month. My reread and TBR Jar picks aren’t apart of that. Of course I chose Splintered as my reread because I want to annotate the series this go around.

My Book Haul page (which will have its first two books added today when they arrive) and my Bookopoly Rolls page for the book club I just recently joined (We Be Book’n) I will hopefully update more on Bookopoly towards the end of the month as part of my wrap up.

Readathon #1 that I’m taking part in is Hogwarts House Battles. I failed at the Newts (and all other readathons last month), so I’m doing things different this time around. I’m just going to read and then decide after the fact what prompt the book fits for. So much less stress on myself. Same goes for the next readathon I’m about to show.

This is all I have so far in my bullet journal. I was going to do a New Releases page, but I haven’t read many of the series that have sequels or later books in the series coming out so I figured I would save that page until next year.

Do any of you have a reading journal or bullet journal? Any tips you can spare for a newbie? Especially when it comes to supplies. Hope you all have a great day!! 💚

Apologies!

Hey everyone. Just wanted to update you all on why I’ve been absent. I hit a small reading bump mid August (thank you A Court of Mist and Fury for giving me a book hangover…will do a full series review once I finish the last two that are out). Also work ramped up so all I wanted to do was sleep after working 12 hr days. Even my off days were spent sleeping or spending money lol now I’m battling a cold smh Fall just had to let me know it was here.

So this is why there has been no content on my blog for a couple weeks. Hopefully I can get some reading done while I’m sick so that I have many reviews to do. Hope all is well with everyone and happy reading!!
